  • Two well-loved comfort dogs are on-site most days (great energy, zero drama)

  • Access to a photo area with backdrop for content creation and client photos

  • Social media support to help you showcase your work and grow your audience

  • Brand new washer, dryer, and dishwasher—because clean and easy matters

  • Exciting Phase 2 plans coming soon, including a coffee bar and hot water on demand to streamline our back room and create more space

Rental Details

  • Monthly Base Rent: $1,750.00 but Customized based on agreement with the following items in mind: GST ($87.50), optional benefits ($207.78)

  • Due: 1st of each month

  • Late Payment: May result in penalties or suspension of access

  • 10% retail commission paid out monthly

What’s Included

  • Reusable tools: bowls, brushes, whisks, capes, robes, scales

  • Secure personal cupboard storage

  • 24/7 salon access

  • Front desk and phone line support

  • Participation in EcoAction program and use of Davines products for backbar

  • Medical and dental benefits package available to both renters and commission stylists

What You’ll Provide

  • Gloves, cotton, disposable capes, and business cards

  • Handle your own payments and client float

  • Maintain a clean, organized station

  • Follow health, safety, and recycling protocols

  • Bring a respectful, professional attitude to the space

Client Handling & Walk-ins

  • Walk-ins are offered to salon employees first, then chair renters

  • Walk-in clients taken by a renter are subject to 50% commission on the first visit only

  • After that, the client is fully yours

  • Personal product or tool retail sales inside the salon are not permitted

Culture & Conduct

  • Professionalism, respect, and kindness are non-negotiable

  • Zero tolerance for bullying, harassment, or toxic behaviour

  • Compliance with salon policies and workplace regulations is required

Independent Contractor Freedom

  • You run your own business within a collaborative team

  • You're responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and expenses

  • We support your independence while providing structure when you want it

Ending the Agreement

  • One month’s written notice is required from either side

  • Immediate termination may occur due to non-payment, serious misconduct, or rule violations

  • All salon property must be returned in good condition, and personal items removed

Commission Stylist Overview

A Culture-First Approach to Commission

At Proper, we offer more than just a chair. Our commission stylist model is designed to support career growth, encourage creativity, and provide clarity in compensation—all within a welcoming, values-aligned salon culture.

Compensation Structure

Position: Commission Hairstylist
Base Pay: $17.85/hour (guaranteed for first 6 months, reviewed afterward)

Full-Time (4 -5 days/week)

  • $7,500: 47.5%

  • $8,500: 48.5%

  • $9,500: 49.5%

  • $10,500: 50.5%

What You Receive

  • Backbar products provided by Proper (this includes colour/bleach at no additional cost to you)

  • 4% vacation pay, paid monthly

  • 10% retail commission, paid monthly

  • 11 paid statutory holidays

  • 5 paid sick days

  • Weekly tip payouts via e-transfer

  • Comprehensive Medical & dental benefits available (50% paid by Proper, 50% by stylist)

  • Flexible schedule

  • 24/7 access to your schedule

  • Front desk support

What We Expect

  • Professional, stylish dress code (no hats; hair and makeup done before shift)

  • Everyone contributes to daily cleaning and laundry (duty list posted)

  • Advance notice required for personal bookings, schedule changes, or time off

  • Friends and family pay for cost of product; appointments booked after hours when possible
